I have recently built a new pc for gaming use. My set-up is as follows...

msi neo4 platinum mobo
1gb (2x512mb) corsair ram
xfx geforce 6600gt
maxtor sata 120gb hard drive
sony dvd rom/cd rw
amd athlon 3200
500w psu

and this case...

with an extra fan...

Being new to the computer building world, i was wondering whether my temperature readings were ok. The case has two fans on the side, one on the front then i put an extra one on the back. I have done no overclocking. i was playing 'need for speed underground 2' for about 3 hours non-stop on my new pc (graphics on full), then when i had finished the graphics card temperature was 68C. This did decrease down to about 50 after a while but i am getting paranoid i am doing damage to my pc. The same thing happens when i play far cry and doom 3.

can someone tell me if this is normal?

thanks

yeah, that seems a little high, you must be using the stock cooling. I would get a new heatsink, something from zalman or thermaltake that will cool your cpu better than the stock heatsink

I have a 6600GT and trust me, it is perfectly ok. They have a heat threshold of over 120 degrees C and max out at 127 C. My temps are running around 50ish too and at times drop to 40 something on cooler days. Mine got as high as in the 80's at one time .

i alos have the xfx 6600gt i get the same thing i sometimes it goes up to 70 on hotter days in my room playing bf2 its normal

ok thanks, i will look into buying a new heatsink for my processor. Can anyone recommend a decent one that is fairly cheap? bearing in mind im from the UK so i dont do newegg lol.

its nice to know that those temperatures aren't unheard of with the 6600gt. does anyone have any tips on how to keep the case cooler?

thanks

well they are a bit high, but as already said they can take 120 C without braking so no worries there. The only thing is that the cooler it stays the better it performs.
