Alright, I'm going to be getting an older pIII machine and I was thinking about installing linux on it because I've always been curious about it and I'd like to check it out. So I need some advice, which distro should I get? Any kind of advice or websites you guys know of would be extremely helpful for this first time linux user.

I'm a recent beginner also and I must say I LOVE linux. For your first distro I would recommend Slackware or Fedora core.

As for the site that would help you... http://www.google.com/linux
then you obviously search for what you need.

okay...I settled on Fedora Core 4, and I'm downloading it right now, as soon as I get the computer all straightened out, I'm going to install it and be on my way to exploring the great Linux os.....lol

i was just going to make a thread just like this, lol. post back and say if you liked it or not.

with linux, you should learn as you go, if you run into a problem (you will) ,google it

for beginners: suse or fedora
