USB Bus has power, just doesn't work

A friend's computer is going crazy. If you plug any USB device into it, windows fails to recognize anything (doesn't prompt for drivers, doesn't even find it). I know the USB bus has power though because I plugged in a usb 802.11b adapter that has an LED light which turned on once plugged in. Any ideas?

ive had a similar problem and it was because one of my front usb cables had gone wrong and this was causing some really weird problems like one of my ide ports stopped working and none of my usb ports worked anyway try unplugging the front usb ports and see if that works

Well I tried your trick of disconnecting the front and also even the back ones, however it still won't find USB devices.

hmm strange ... meby the drivers are fecked ... or the device is roken ... check in your BIOS that usb is turnt on or sumthing similar, i saw this in mine somewhere
