I am a home Pc user, i want to put linux on my laptop, what is the best FREE verison for this?

thanks alex

I've used Ubuntu 5.04 before on my laptop, which has a VIA C3 CPU, meaning that i had compatibility issues with Fedora, so i'd say you can rely on it for almost any machine.

Programs are easy to install on it too, so it's quite a good distro for beginners, but Linspire was better imo, however, that costs a hell of a lot of money, so i wouldn't go for that.

If it does run a little slow on that machine you should change to another window manager, specifically a more light weight window manager such as fluxbox or enlightenment.

Well, Ubuntu, although slightly slow, was extremely stable, on my VIA C3 Nehemiah 1.2GHz 240MB RAM laptop, so i think you might just get by.
