i had a WD 160GB HDD to store all my stuff from my family computer on. i took it out and now i'm using i as the master HDD for my new computer. i installed windows on it and when i booted up it still had all the old stuff on it. i though every time yu install windows it reformats your HDD,aat least it's always done that in the past with me.

No it doesnt. If u only reinstall windows it all of the files will stay there. Though u still need to install all of the programs again. When u reformat the drive then everything is gone.

or unless it was partitioned, but yeah if you do like a repair install without reformatting, everything will still be there.

i did a full install.

But as long as u don't delete the partitions all of the files stay on the hdd. The windows install only replaces all of the windows files.
