the smell of hot may think that it's fried, but at least give it a try. It will do nothing to the board if the CPU is reallly dead...but, try it. You can save lots of money

Yup. The CPU heats up very, very quickly.

reminds me of a video I once saw...
several guys, messing around with computers..
they have a computer setup on a desk, just sitting there, the mother board on the table, no case..
the heat sink is just sitting on the cpu, not latched into place...
they have the system up and running... over clocked.... then they out of the blue grab the heat sink off and step back.. not even 3 seconds later.. POP!
the cpu flew off of the mother board, and landed on the ground, and it was VERY VERY HOT!
it also left a hole in the mother board, and a hole in the table for that matter... =\

CPUs dont fry, CPUs fry the motherboards. I hope you guys knew that right? Its a common misconception among noobs but.. yeah.. Lol I thought you guys would know that

CPU's could burn out if no cooling is applied to it.

Yeah, that's the whole point of having a maximum temperature - so the CPU doesn't destroy itself.
