Can't play windows audio/video files

I can't play windows audio/video files correctly on my new build. The same files will play fine on my dad's computer, but when i try toplay them on mine, they play in crazy colors, and look all blocky and like all the colors of the rainbow. What could be causing this? All my games play fine.

U need to download the right codecs.

I found the new drivers that werew just relelased, awesome, there's only one problem, they are HUGE!!! Damn you dial-up, oh well, off to my friends house, he has cox.
