I am having problems getting a computer to connect to the net. I ran IPconfig release, renew and flushdns. then ipconfig /all to make sure it picks up the proper IP. After I do this sometimes I can connect to the net for about 30 secs then it drops. Could this be a NIC issue?

give more details... what's your ISP? do you have dial-up/broadband? Your hardware stats?

shaw cable. its an old amd duron 900, 40 gig drive , 256MB, 10/100 nic, Runing Winxp PRO

Obviously he's on a different computer, use your common sense.

Cable internet, hmmm. I get drop offs every once in awhile. Do a powerdown of the cable modem for 30 seconds and plug the power cable back in the modem.

update your NIC drivers if you can.

try changing ur nic card......or cable modem...........
