I was asked by a friend to look into a computer that he is thinking of buying, but i don't know much about E-Machines. Here are the specs.

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.2 ghz, 1 gig ram, 160 gb hd. He is upgrading to the ATI x700 ex.

What do you guys think, what is the general read on e-machines in general.

Thanks

What, are they a young company, or where do they lack that other prevail?

none of thes, but the way they build their comps...it's poor hardware based and sometimes, after one year, the whole computer just dies out.

If it's $600-650ish, don't even go there...it's poorly hardware designed machine

It's his choice...but, it may work more than a year though. E-machines has the bad reputation of modding a mobo and making crap out of it...And they're ASRock based...the worse mobo ever

me personally, I advise against buying brand computers at all (unless they are laptops)
A relative of mine bought an e-machines, and it died about 9 months later.
and as for ASrock being the worst, I wouldn't know.. A friend of mine built one with an ASrock motherboard, and it seems to work just fine... *shrugs*
