Ok I just bought a:
2.60 Celeron
768 MB PC2700 Ram
40gig HD
Windows XP home edition

I other computer (I have had for a while):
1.8 AMD
512 PC133 Ram
80gig HD
Win 2000 Professional

My question:
My old computer (the 1.8 AMD) is faster then the 2.60 celeron. The new computer seems very laggy (for lack of a better word). Just plan slow. What can I do to help speed things up please?

Thanks in advance
Dave

768 Ram is fine.
Your Celery should be kind of slow if it isn't Celeron D.
You can speed up things adding a video card if you're running onboard video...

also, celerons (no matter what the clock speed) are still super slowwwww...

you may want to get a bigger harddrive, cause if that 40gig is near to filling it will definately slow your comp.

I think that the new pc is not custom made. There could be some manufacturers programs running, some stuff that u will prolly never use. U could try and remove these. Someone else had this same problem some time ago and this made his pc run faster.

are your sure your computer is using all your RAM. also when intels heat up they slow down to compensate for the heat.

just a side note i don't really know if it applies to the celeron and AMD but with a P4 and AMD 64 processors a 2GHz P4 is not equal to a AMD 64 2GHz. the AMD 64 is better.
