Stupid Windows

Reinstall because the computer wont shut down? That a waste of time..

Click "start" "Run" type regedit
Navigate to:
Code:
 HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
Look for
Code:
PowerDownAfterShutdown
make sure it's set to 1

If it's at 0 or something else double click it and chagne the value to 1

Notes: this may not work on the 1st reboot.. Reboot the machine and allow it to boot fully to idle.. do a shut down.

Worth a go :p Never seen it done though...

Would be nice to hear if it works!
if you dont believe it..

Follow the instructions yourself. Except change it to a 0
Then shutdown.. (you may need to reboot 1st) and you'll see that it will go to that screen.. To return to normal change back to a 1

Tried It, But Nope, Didnt work.Even after 5 reboots, and then leaving it for 20 mins, then shutting down. Still get that shitty "Its is now safe to turn off your computer" Screen.

Do you have apm enabled in your BIOS? Does your BIOS even support apm?

The only reference to APM i can find is in Power Mnagement Setup (in Bios) "PM Control by APM : YES"

That is damned weird then... have you still got a guarentee on the machine?

Nah, its an old P3 that I put together myself.

I'm over it now, ha ha. If I shut down and then hold the button in then its all good. It was just annoying me that I had to do that everytime. But I only use it to format other hdd's these days anyway.

Would be good if anyone has any other idea's just incase it happens again on another pc.
