contradicting pc articles

I read two articles, both on Pc world i think, one talked about the patriot act and how the government still cant track anyones internet browsing without a warrant, and another one talked about someone who was arrested for viewing an illegal website, so how are these people being caught if the government cant track internet browsing, confusing isnt it?

Well, if an illegal website is viewed, the IP address can be looked up easily. They aren't tracking people, just seeing who's visiting the illegal site. Why a known illegal site would be up and running is beyond me, however.

ISPs would have that information.

With all the millions, probably billlions, of sites on the internet these days its almost impossible to monitor every single site the day it goes up. I can name a few illegal sites imediately(pirating, not sick child porn or nethin like that)

I could name a free pirating sites myself. But not child porn or anything. And if a ISP catches you doign EXTREME THINGS like child porn and such they WILL report you to the cops. The cops cant actively track you without a warrant but then again if they see a man murder a other man in broad daylight in the middle of the street with 1,000 eye witnesses do ya think they going go to the judge first for a warrant. So if you go to a kiddie porn site and your ISP catches you. They have all right to report you since its there service you are using. I read my TOS from my ISP and it said somthing along those lines.

Oh, so even if someone went on an illegal site like that once by accident then their isp would catch and report them, or do they just do that to those who are constantly on that kind of stuff?

Dunno they could in theory but would a cop arrest you for accidently taking somthing froma store suchg as some bumblegum because you forgot to pay for it? Doubt it. If you do run across somthing like that i'd say the safest bet would be to e-mail your ISP and report the site. What I would do.

Ok people listen up...Get it straight....There is no privacy on the internet....Thus you have NO EXPECTATIONS OF PRIVACY.....

Even in so called secured sites using the https is not secured by laws or statutes but only by encryption.

You send Email and there is a possibility that thousands of others can read what you have to say... The web even though it uses transmition lines such as telephone and cable networks is concidered open communication lines... That means that you have no right to privacy...It also means that police do not need search warrants and all to track you down and follow your every move....The only time they need warrants and such is if they need information about an individual that is stored in private files of the ISPs or Network Servers...
It is perfectly legal for them to use web bots and trace all your calls and see what you are doing....

In reallity though...There are not any real reasons for them to look at you unless you happen to trigger a key for them to be curious....

A key could be child porn...illicit drug making chemical searches or bomb making searches and things like that. These types of searches can and do trigger red flags about a user that requests them..

Then you have all the "non life individuals" (as I like to call them) that monitor web sites and chat rooms and AIM ans MSN and the likes pretending to be something they are not. They are there trying to find people to turn in for self glorification and stuff like that.

So do you really KNOW who it is that you are discussing things with...I bet you don't!!!

id think that the government probably sets up hard to find illegal sites to track all IP's that go to them. only ppl that really look will find sites that are illegal and that the government hasnt found yet.
