AGP Help

Hi,

I am currently in the market for a new graphics card. I know what one I want but I am alittle puzzled about the interfaces. I know i need an AGP card, but I don't know if my motherboard is AGP 4x/8x compatiable or not. is there such a thing as an AGP slot that is not 4x or 8 x? i am assuming this "4x/8x" refers to the AGP slots speed compared with the original AGP slot speed like with CD drives and their 48x speeds.

Can anyone tell me how I can find out what my motherboard supports?
Does anyone know when AGP 4x/8x slots were introduced?

If it helps my computer is a HP pavilion 722a, the current card i have now is a geforce4 mx420 and i want to get a Geforce 6600gt.

Any help would be appreciated.

I would recommend looking in your computer manual. There is usually a specs section that will list everything that your computer offers. I bought my Dell 8200 in late 2000 and it only has AGP 2x/4x. All this means is that you will not get the full power out of an 8x card, but you can still use it fine.

download everest(google it) and it should give you a link to your MOBO(motherboard) site. it should have the specs there.
