Hi,

I don't like it when you edit dodgy, questionable posts.

If I come onto a forum topic, and see a thread which is locked, and I click to read it, it just says "spam", or even ".", and the poster is banned.

Can they not be left alone, just to make an example of the spammer, or as an example of how to NOT behave on CF?

well...

If a post is edited for spamming, why do the spammer a favor and leave up their spam? And the same holds true for profanity and porn.
If it's bad enought to be edited and the poster banned then we will not leave the offending post up.

It's not going to happen from me either...

I really don't like the idea of having to ban someone for profanity. And i really feel that i go out of my way not to. the rules are posted and we mods really try to apply them equally. Sometimes it may not seem so to a particular member and they may even feel that we are picking on them. And in a way it is true.
If I have to continue to monitor a certain member because they fail to abide by all the warnings that have been issued. I am going to hit the ban button.
Period!. It is not my job to follow behind members and constantly correct their bad habits. And I am not going to do it. So when I find that member constantly doing the same thing over and over regardless that we have put notes warning him about it and all, They are out of here for a bit.
They have been warned over and over about it but yet they keep doing it. They get what ever is comeing to them.
Spammers...they come in and sign in and post the spam and then run away. The only time they come back is to check on their spam and try to display it again. They contribute nothing.

Just wondering....can you guys follow some discipline to double or triple or even quadruple posting!!!! I mean I really hate it when I have had to tell mutliple people more than 2 or 3 times to use the edit button. I mean it happens to even great members but still. Can anything be done about it?

Personally, I hate using the ban button, I hate using the edit button, and I hate using the lock button...

I'm of the belief that each person should have the good sense not to post spam, not to post profanity and not to argue...

My beliefs are often let down... and thats when I have to start making use of the buttons provided. -and I do always find it a shame.

anyway, in direct response to this thread you'll find that all the spam posts have been removed from the front pages of these forums. (who says we don't listen to feedback!).

all the spam is kept on site, as evidence of the actions though. just you won't be able to see it anymore.

no, because it'd be a bit dangerous to let just anyone delete posts...

I know that I was just anyone before I was a mod, but I hope you get what I mean,

if it were available to any member then it wouldn't really be managable.

besides there are mods on here *practically* all the time, (I've been on all day)... I bet you didn't even know there had been a spam merchant trying to sell certificates here did you?

see it's effective, we get to keep the posts in the forum, but they don't actually get in the way of members...
