I'm new here obviously and I came here to seek advice.
After I finally get a got I want to build my own computer but I don't know what to use to build it.

My spending limit is probably going to be about $700US, but I don't know how much I will be making at a job. ( I'm 16 and in school)
I will use my computer fir some gaminig, not hardcore, but probably Counterstrike, Half- life 2, and Doom 3. I'll also use it for school work, downloadingmusic, maybe watch a movie or 2, and the internet.

I need someone to point me in the right direction. I've already looked at tigerdirect, newegg and a few others. I just don't know what is a good price or not.

Thanks.

I don't know. I don't have any games at the moment because I don't want to run them on either of the computers at my house. If I had to guess about just the space I use it'd probably be no more than 20 gb.

How much ram should I think about getting? 512?
And what AMD cpu would be good?

I don't know too much about this stuff at all

I would shoot for an AMD 3000+, at least 512MB of RAM try and shoot for a GB. I would also shoot for a 6600GT.

Well, this is a 700 dollar budget. 512 Minimum and 1GB you should get as a gamer. I don't game and I got 1GB, AMD 3000+, I have it right now with the thermal pad on the heatsink and the stock heatsink from AMD. I use a dual fan PSU and 4 case fans and my Idle temp is 34C so stock should be fine for you. That is 146 dollars for athlon 64 3000+.

Starr I am assuming you meant AMD Athlon 64 right? not XP or anything...

Get socket 939 first off.

Case is ok, might want to get a power supply better than that one. I recommend thermaltake for power supplies.

The RAM, is DDR2 Which isn't supported at all you need 184 pin ddr sdram.

Hard drive is ok as long as you rmotherboard is compatible with SATA 150.

Video card is good.

Also I wouldn't recommend getting a EVGA motherboard. Get an Abit or MSI or Gigabyte.

And you will need cooling and a heatsink and optical drive(s) and thermal paste. Unless you want to use thermal pad of course.

Heres wat im thinking. Its total is $740.97 before tax and shiping, but right now there is 60$ mail in rebates for 2 of the items so it should be perfect for your price range. I chose options that could be overclocked but are extremly well without it.
