I can't do that on an Emachines. The Emachine won't allow me to boot from CD.

Stick the drive in another box (preferably something on your network) and copy the files to that boxes hard drive - or if you don't have another box by an external hard drive, they're pretty cheap if you know where to look and take the drive to a neighboors, pop it in and copy the files to an external. Then reformat by booting to the emachines restor disk, reinstall everything and copy your files back over.
