Upgrading Processor

I want to upgrade my processor (mainly for games) and im pretty sure the main thing that I need is a new processor and maybe a new mobo...

Heres the specs:
CPU - intel pentium 4, 1600MHz (16x100)
MOBO - Intell Billings D845BG
RAM - 512 mb
Vid Card - Nvidia Gforce fx 5600 (256mb)

The processor I had in mind was the Intel pentum4 ht or the new pentium D (want 3.0 GHz or more) Is there anything that I need to upgrade also besides the mobo if all I want is the processor + mobo?

if you get a new MOBO and CPU theres nothing that you have to upgrade with it, but if you want to play the newer games you are going to need a new video card.

Yes and you would need to make sure that the ram is compatible.

You might also consider upgrading to 1GB of RAM. That would probably help out a lot.

I'd say my budget would be around 300 no more then 400. Oh and what MOBO would you recommend I heard that the asus or something was good.

Asus, MSI, or gigabyte or good motherboard companies.

I just got a Gigabyte Ga-K8NF-9 for 939-pin CPUs (AMD Athlon 64 or better), and I love it. SATA, PCIe, et cetera. It's a really nice board.

humm, i would go with AMD, they over all, are the best!
