 How do I change the defualt boot partition. At the moment it is booting from an extended partition i installed xp on, not the logical one with Grub (boot menu) on it.

Start>>Run>>type msconfig>>boot.ini tab>>change order and set default.

Or if you're adventurous ... search for boot.ini file and edit it.

already tried this. doesn't work. the partition i want the computer to boot from does not have a dirve letter. i cannot give it one because it is formated by linux and therefore not readable through windows.

well my computer refuses to turn on now. so i am just going to reinstall everything on a new hard drive

well, there is a way to set the boot partition from in there, but it still boots from windows. As everything has stopped woring now anyway. i have just bought a 160gb hard drive which i will use for windows. i can use my old 40gb for linux.
