Laptop of TabletPC?

In the fall of 2005, I will be a freshman at the University of Cincinnati, majoring in Civil Engineering. As a requirement, we must purchase our own computer, a portable computer being the best. The computing policy and requirements can be found at:

http://www.eng.uc.edu/resources/col...oc/Revised Student Owned Computing Policy.htm

and

http://www.eng.uc.edu/resources/college/collegecomputing/soc/minreq/MinimumRequirement2005.htm

respectively.

I am currently trying to decide between a Dell Latitude D810 or an Acer TravelMate C314. The Dell offers better performance, but the Acer is lighter and easier to manage. Both systems have nearly the same cost after changing the capabilities to meet my needs. I would like these computers to last the five (5) years that I will be in the engineering program, but after talking to the director, that doesn't seem like a possibility.

Can anyone help me make my decision, and why?

Re: Laptop of TabletPC?

It depends. A TabletPC is handy for certain things, and a laptop is great for general use.

I would think a Tablet PC is better because you get same functionality as a general laptop plus more with the tablet feature.

My Highchool gives all incoming Freshmen an Acer Travelmate C110. It's really nice. I rarely use it to write though because I type much faster. But if you do a lot of walking and writing it is perfect. A lot of kids broke the little plastic latches and things which are covered in warranty but I am sure you will be a little more responsible then a bunch of 15 year olds.
