Spyware

Hi All:

Me and my girlfriend share a computer. Lately it seems as though somehow she knows things which she couldn't possibly know about. She's always been somewhat of the jealous and insecure type who sometimes comes up with these wierd assumptions. Some one told me about some programs where a person can look back and follow every keystroke another person makes on a computer without him or her knowing about it. I don't want to sound paranoid but it I just wonder if this is something she might have done. I wouldn't put it past her. Supposedly- they don't leave anyway for someone to know the program is on the computer. How would someone go about trying to find out if spyware is installed?

Thanks

Goldfinger

ok Gert Fröbe;
well it is possible but you think she did thsi to you? Like she wanted to know what yu typed? OR did she DL something that might have done the?/
In any case make sure you have a firewall, Spyware destroyer and a virus scanner

Firewall: Kerio
SpyWare finder: SpyBot: Search and Destroy
Virus Scanner: Antidote Super Lite version

From what I understand - there are some programs out there so that people can moniter computers without someone knowing about it. I'm not saying she installed one- but she certainly seems to know things I can't figure how she knew them -unless she was watching me type it on the computer. (which she wasn't)

she could just been looking around your account you have a password? Are you the Admin and is she the limited user?

It's pretty much "our" computer. I was just inquiring if there was a way one could tell if one of these spy programs were installed and how would a person detect it. I'm not sure one is but it sure seems like it. Surely the "spyer" has to access the program someway so it has to be visible someplace I would think.

I agreee... She's probabe opening up your chat messenger and looking at your history for that, opening your internet history. Scrolling down on the address bar and search bar. and looking at the recient files list..

This can all be done by a novice..

If you like, and are paranoid, I have a way that will remove all your temporary files. This can be done on start up, shutdown or run manually.

ok did any catch the Gert Fröbe Joke??? anyone???

anyway, what have you been doing that you dont want her to know about!

He may not be doing anything.. Could be in my situation I was in.. My wife and I used the same computer.. I started noticing that every time I would get off the computer, weather it was going to the bathroom and done for the evening, she would jump on right away.. I would walk into the room and she would click out of something..

She then would use like quotes I have said to people directed to me in a mean manner.. I installed a spying program and seen the evertime I left or got off the computer she was opening the IM history, the internet history etc...

I got her good thogh.. I created a webpage. all that was on it was wrighting asking her by name why she didn't trust me on the computer and why she's checking up on me.. I also coded it to email me and let her know that so she wouldn't be able to deny it..
I then put a tag in the site to create a history and had it named like a porn site..

Sure enough she went there. We then had a long talk about her jelosy and the computer.. I wasn't doing anything wrong. She was just creating bad thoughts in her own head..
