Bought 400GB Hard Drive...Computer Only Showing 130?

...If you don't have SP2 install it...
...SP1 is required in xp to recognize more than 137 gb on a HD...
...Yea, you need SP2 to recognize a HD that is that large...
...SP2 is NOT REQUIRED!! Only SP1...
...Really, I thought it was SP2.....
...Sigh!!...
Per is of course right... the 48bit address limit was addressed [pun] in service pack one...

however, there are two things, firstly your Hardware must also be capable of addressing 48 bit, so you may need a bios update, and some H/W simply isn't capable.

Secondly, since service packs are cumulative, (i.e SP2 contains SP1 updates), I'd recomend you go with SP2, that way you get the features you want out of SP1, as well as all the other fixes packaged in SP2.

Also I've read on some other places about people still having trouble even after installing SP1, if I remember correctly it has to do with LBA support... try setting the parameters in the bios rather than auto detect.

Oh yeah. I added a new partition with DiscWizard. I'm still using SP1, and I have a 127GB HDD and a 244GB one. Thanks for everything guys.
