how can I make png files with transparent backgrounds? I've seen these transparent pictures and want to make some of my own in that format

You'll have to get an image manipulation program.
For free you have The Gimp.
Paid programs are Adobe Photoshop and Corel's Jasc paint Shop Pro...

Hi there,
Its possible to use png files with transparent background using Photoshop clipping path techniques. The policy is to cutout the background images using Photoshop pen tools and can save your files in any format. Gimp image editing/manipulation software can be your another consideration.
