Computer reboots over and over again

I took a picture, but I notice I can't post attachments...

The main drive has a wide red cord with smaller ends attached to it and the motherboard (I think). Then there's a cord with wider ends attached to the drive that goes up somewhere.

Also attached to that cord is another one with one wide end and one small end.

I hooked the wide end of that cord into the slave drive, but I'm not sure what to do with the smaller end.

Does that make any sense at all? Sorry I can't explain it better.

Well, I just figured out the cord with the wide end is the power, if that helps. I would assume that means the smaller end goes into the drive as well, but for the life of me, I don't see where.

I'm still a bit confused....
go to www.photobucket.com you can upload pictures there. then give either a link or the <img> tag to show it in your post. sorry for the trouble but that is the only way to show images.
If you don't mind, I may be able to help you through msn if you have it.

Actually, I think I might have figured it out. I guess the cords are for two different things: the power and the data, right?

Well the data plug on my old computer is a huge flat wide one, where on the new computer it's just a little tiny one.

I didn't notice that the little end fits into the old drive only one way. So I'll try that.

The problem I'm having now is that the power cord doesn't seem to be working anymore (it was 30 seconds ago), so I'll keep trying that.

yes the power cord should be the skinny one should be the power cord and the wide one is the data...

also, it just occured to me.... you aren't doing that while the computer is on are you???? are you using the same you are using to talk to me with?

if so stop right now before something blows.... wow I forgot to mention that I hope its not too late!

Hmm... I have it all hooked up now (I think), but it's not being recognized. Should it just automatically show up in My Computer?

I hope that you had the computer off while making those changes. if it is on, it can damage the hardware. I am very sorry I forgot to mention that! maybe you knew anyway.

Anyway, if you didn't just restart the computer now. yes it should show up i My Computer. If not we'll go from there. you may need to turn it on in the Bios.

Yeah, I'm making sure it's off before I mess around.

But it's not showing up. Before, when I had the power cord hooked up, I could hear it inside the computer. Now, I don't hear it anymore.

Is there anything else I should try?

you mean the power cord isn't hooked up now? it should be hooked up.

as long as both cords are plugged into the drive.

Also, make sure that you set the pin to "slave" if not windows won't detect it.

Yeah, it's set to slave, and the power cord is plugged in, but the other cord keeps falling out.

The problem is, if both cords are plugged firmly into the drive at the same time, the computer won't start. The light on the front just kind of flashes, and then nothing works. I had to unplug the power cord (of the computer), wait a few minutes, and then plug it back in. Then if I unplug either one of the cords from the drive, the computer will turn back on.

Seems a little strange to me.
