Ok, I thought that my computer pieces were all picked out until I looked into the motherboard/ram issues. I am planning on using a MSI K8N NEO2 PLATINUM mobo with 2 x 1gig sticks of ram. After reading over this site http://www.msicomputer.com/product/p_spec.asp?model=K8N_Neo2_Platinum and looking over the memory specifications, I am just lost. Could someone explain to me what dual and single sided ram sticks are?

Also, I was planning on using:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820146970#DetailSpecs
but the mobo lists that it can only handle 2.5v for the memory and these require 2.6v. Whats the deal? Can this be changed in bios? Please someone help.

DDR Voltages can be changed via the BIOS quite easily. That is not an issue.

However, the difference between double sided and single sided DIMMs is not so simple. The Neo2 motherboard supports both of these. However, in order to run in dual channel mode, you must have IDENTICAL wafers. That is, the DIMMs must use the exact same chipsets and both be single or double sided. Most RAM now is double sided, so if you are getting good RAM, which I hope you are, then you should most likely have double sided. However, If you want 2GBs, I would do 4x512MB sticks, as 4 of those in dual channel mode will smash the performance of 2x1GB sticks even if they are in dual channel. The more your RAM is "spread out" the better. :D Hope this helps.

woot thx for response dark.
Ok so im thinking of getting 2x:
OCZ Performance Series 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 400 (PC 3200) Copper Heatspreader Dual Channel Kit System Memory

Will these work well with a fatality AN8 board? I see that the timings on the sticks of ram are 2-3-3-6, I have no idea what this means. :p This seems like a decent deal, but you vets would know best, please inform me.

They most certainly will. That is an excellent price on that RAM. Wait.. you want 2GBs? LMAO. Ok, but that is a bit of overkill on a budget, go with 1GB for now unless that fits your budget. 2GBs would give you a nice edge on things, but it isnt nessecary.

Yea, that is overkill.... unless you plan on doing visual editing and stuff like that. You need quite a bit of RAM.

its the timings of the ram, the lower those numbers are the faster the ram is. 2-2-2-5 is the lowest timing for a ram and is the fastest. each number represents a component of the ram and how fast it works in seconds, eg trcd, trp, cas latency, these are all parts of the ram that work in seconds. the lower these numbers are the faster the ram works, basically very simple to understand. basically if you want the best ram for gaming and overclocking ram, get 2-2-2-5 timing ram ddr 400. if its to expensive you can get 2-3-3-8 ram too, those are okay. never get ram with timings like 3-4-4-8 those are slow.

nice explanation oni. ok im gonna stick with that ram, but im wondering if downgrading my mobo from a fatality to a neo 2 would be a wise decision.

This:

to This:

Is it really worth it to purchase the fatality over the neo? From the raw specs it doesnt look like it, and I do not see myself overclocking the processor (amd 3500+) anytime soon. Any input is appreciated
