hp System Recovery

Ive also got a HP but instead of them them giving you disks they put a Recovery partion on your hard drive and you have to burn this to disk yourself.
i contacted hps helpline and the above is what they told me.

Yeah, i thought it could run on the harddrive though, but mustn't be the case :p

Buy a MP3 Player with about 20gig storage? :p
I actually have a 40gig, I feel so naive for skipping over that. Man, that would've saved so much time. Oh well, what's done is done.

I'm actually having another problem now, though. In the system tray there is a little red icon with an 'X' on it and when I move my mouse over it, it says:

Your computer is infected!
Protect your computer from viruses, you need to use antivirus software.

When I click on it a website pops up for antivirus software. I don't want to pay for it since I already have Norton Antivirus. Could some advertising thing just infected my computer? or do I need to get better protection? There's no way(that I know of) to get rid of this X in the system tray, either.

By the way, the website it brings me to is: http://www.antivirus-gold.com/?wm=10003&swm=0
Anyone know if this software is any good?
