Use all these free security apps and you will be well set.

Avast Anti Virus http://www.avast.com/

Spybot Search & Destroy http://www.safer-networking.org/

Ad-Aware http://www.lavasoftusa.com

SpywareBlaster http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html

CWSHREDDER http://www.intermute.com/products/cwshredder.html

McAfee Stinger http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/

Microsoft Antispyware
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/spyware/software/default.mspx

Sygate Firewall Free Version http://smb.sygate.com/products/spf_standard.htm

And last but not least is MoveOnBoot 1.9.5 (this file is down the bottom in Old Version (Freeware), this will shift the most persistent file on boot up ... http://www.gibinsoft.net/gipoutils/fileutil/index.htm

Microsoft Antispyware and SP2 will do you fine :D

I don't trust Anti Virus, and its not worth the lag on the system. Nor do you really need a useless third arm browser. If you want Tabs, get MSN Toolbar.

Yeah, I use Zone Alarm Firewall (free firewall, very good), Norton System Works for Antivirus (contains Norton Antivirus) and Spybot Search and Destroy for spyware removal.

One I don't trust is Adaware, because of personal use. It deleted my internet connection twice, and i had to do a reformat to get them back, because the re-installation by NTL didn't help for some reason...

i would go with Ad-aware not Microsoft because in my experience with both software Ad-aware comes up top.

Microsoft does not scan for tracking cookies!!!

Ad-Aware is a much better software.

Kage what happened with Ad-aware are you sure its to blame?

Yeah, I'm sure thats to blaim since both times when I had it installed and ran it the second time, it knocked the broadband out, and I couldn't get online at all.

NTL tried and couldn't so it must have knocked off a very important file which it must have tracked as spyware, and I had to do a reformat.

The second time, I got it back by running a System Restore.

that's odd...i have used ad aware and i liked it.

"I don't trust antivirus" what happens if you get a trojan or a virus do you just let it sit.

Yeah Antivirus is a very good program, as it can delete things automatically. Free programs like AVG are good too, but most things it finds have to be deleted manually using a link which tells you how to get rid of it yourself.

Yeah, I don't know why. It just seemed to do it on mine. I haven't tried it since the re-build, but you can still imagine why I wouldn't want to test it out again, so I might just leave it alone.

Anyone using NTL ever had this problem?
