Well, if you can access the CD Rom drive, which has the OS CD in I suppose, then you type setup.exe and install the OS.

I tried, but it said setup failed or something, then it went on to say if I had an ntfs or some other file system, to create a dos boot partition.....i'm stumped

I have a 10-something year old computer, and recently I had to reformat the disk, due to a missing boot sector. After that, I was able to get the hard drive working, but with the windows files missing, I cannot install CD-ROM drive files, and with the CD-ROM drive files missing, I cannot install windows!!!!

Is it what you described in you post ? That can't be 10 years old.
But it seems my friend bluto's posts are missing.

Why did you not realize that formating removes everything.Did you not see the warning.!!!

You need a driver floppy disk and Dos installed first.

Yeah, well there wasn't much I could do! When I started it up, it said boot setor not found, and it didn't recognise C:!
EDIT:BTW, what files do I need to install dos?
