Is this hardware problem or software?

Yup, I am considering on getting a new card as well. I might as well wait for the 7800GTX. Wasn't 6600GT PCI-E only? And to answer the sudden temp drop... The first temperature was about 30 minutes after gaming. And there was at least 4 inches in height of dust in my PC. The lower temperature was without gaming and no dust.

PS Any word on when the new generation of nvidia cards are coming out? (or ATi equivalent...)

Ah right Those temps are a bit stupid being put together then isn't it? Of course playing games it would have heated up to around that temperature, most video cards do. With no gaming, it wouldn't be that warm at all which would signify the large drop..

Nope, you can get the Geforce 6600GT with AGP. Its ATI that don't have many mid range cards, and all the high powered ones are in PCI-e.

Though you can now get a PCI-e to AGP switcher.
