Blocking spam

I'm assuming that you are using Outlook Express. Open OE and go to Tools / Message Rules / Mail and do as Buzz suggests and make rules or filters...

In any mail client.

you can set up filters.
Such as. "If subject contains _____" move to trash or reject..

same with the from email.

That would be the best way.. There are some spam filter programs you buy bt I have never been a fan of those.

I find that Yahoo's spam filter is fantastic, I never get an messages that arn't from friends or requested to my inbox... every piece of spam is delivered to the bulk mail folder for a quick review before pressing empty...

if you have your own email server, then a good filter is spam assasin...

Heres a story for ya..

Hotmail.
I've had a email account ther since 1999
I set up a message board there.. AllAutomotiveQA
I activated the the spam features when they got them. They worked too much. I never got anything except form the people who was On my contact list..

heres the kicker.. I no longer recieve the the message or daily or weekly reports to my inbox..

to this day it's still like that. And I have the spam filters turned off..

One of secrets is to start your address with a couple numbers instead of letters, such as 745joe@XXX.com. The spam generators generally don't use numbers.
Also incredimail, free, has a filter setup.

Members, including David, may like to know that I have now successfully barred eight phrases from the body of spam e-mails, & so far in two days I haven't had one.
The phrases are;-

I am, software, dear friend, dear sir, congratulations, you have won, viagra, & special offer. If anyone wants more info how I did it, please ask, also more suggestions of words/phrases will be welcome, I have a few in mind, but care must be taken, as I sometimes get saucy e-mailed jokes from friends containing the word "sex" or "sexy" for instance. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ur,....... don't report this thread, or lock it, the words are just examples!!

If you have no rules a box should pop up.. IN the upper box scroll till you see:

"Where message body contain specific words"
Check those boxs'

IN box 2:
If you want to emails to delete completely.
Scroll till you see:
"Delete it from server"
Or to delete it and put it in your deleted items.
Check:
"Delete it"

In Box 3:
Click on the underlined
"Contains Specific words"
The Specific word box has just poped up. Type your word(s) and click add after each one. Once you have the "Banned" words click ok.

Box 4:
Type a new name so you wont forget this.. LIke Spam 1
Click OK then OK again to get out of message rules..

From now on all your "Spam" messages will be deleted. If you stare to get some more.. Look for the spefic word like Via.gra copy the way they have it spelled and just simple edit the rule to include this specific word.
