os for a oldish laptop

what would be the best os, to put on a dell inspiron 3800 its only 600mhz, shud i over clock it??

How much memory does it have. If below 128 then i would suggest 98se even though xp could be used , but would be really slow. If it has over 128 then you could put about any OS that you want to. Overclocking will not help you too much on that low of a speed other than burn you out faster because of its age.

definetly 98se. xp didn't work on my old 760mhz 64mb ram. 95 is simply crap.

I had no trouble installing xp on a compaq presario 1240 laptop just a few weeks ago. The max ram it could take was a 64 meg stick to go with the built in 32 for a total of 96 megs. It seems to run ok...abit slow but not anything that is really bad.
I have heard that some had installed it on systems with 64 but have not done it myself.so I don't know.
