motherboard/vid card faulty???

ok i will post this quickly before my computer freezes again ok here is my problem..computer freezes and sometimes when i start it i just get no signal come up on the monitor...im told this is most likely the motherboard or the video card...how can i test which it is without going out and replacing both?

If you MOBO has intergraded graphics take out the graphic card. this sounds like not enough power. what is your PSU watts, and how much extra stuff do you have in your computer (PCI cards...)?

It could be just about anything that causes it.

Now if we know that your system is clean...It would be nice to know what the specs are and how old it is so that we would have a better idea as to where to look.

thank you for the warm welcome to the forum k firstly i will tell u all the components of the computer altho i am a novice and not too sure what i am talkin about i will try
the comp was built in 2003
intel cel 1.8ghz 400mhz fsb 128k 478 pin
asus p4sgl-vm,swa,lan sis645gl 2ddr, all in one mainboard
256mb ddr 266mhz ram
wd 40gb 7200 rpm ata 100 hdd
3.5" 1.44mb floppy
dynalink lucent pci 56k l2 controllerless modem
running xp

now i will run those other things and let you know the details..

i tried to run the adaware etc but it keeps freezing evrytime...any other ideas?
