Here are the specs comparisons:

nVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX:

-0.11 micron process TSMC

-430Mhz core / 1.2GHz 256MB GDDR3 memory

-256-bit memory interface

-38.4GB/s memory bandwidth

-24 pixels per clock

-10.32Bps Fill Rate

-8 Vertex Pipes

-860M vertices/second

-400MHz RAMDACs

-NVIDIA CineFX 4.0 engine

-Intellisample 4.0 technology

-64-bit FP texture filtering & blending

-NVIDIA SLI Ready (7800 GTX only)

-DX 9.0 / SM 3.0 & OpenGL 2.0 supported

-G70 comes with 3 models; GTX, GT and Standard

-Single Slot solution

-Single card requires min. 400W PSU with 12V rating of 26A

-SLI configuration requires min. 500W PSU with 12V rating of 34A

-Launch : 22nd of June

ATI Radeon "R520" (These are the most-likely specs):

-24 "Pipelines"

-32 Texture Units

-96 Arithmetic Logic Units

-192 Shader Operations per Cycle

-700MHz Core

-134.4 Billion Shader Operations per Second (at 700MHz)

-256-bit 512MB 1.8GHz GDDR3 Memory

-57.6 GB/sec Bandwidth (at 1.8GHz)

-300-350 Million Transistors

-90nm Manufacturing

-Shader Model 3.0

-ATI HyperMemory

-ATI Multi Rendering Technology (AMR)

-Launch: Q2 2005

Even though the R520's specs aren't fully comfirmed, it will be POWERFUL and it seems like AMR will play a big role. However, nVIDIA will have the momentary advantage because the G70 is due to launch earlier than the R520 (sources say that the R520 launch will be delayed). Either way, it's going to be a tight fight, and it seems like the PS3 vs. Xbox 360 senario where the X360 will release earlier, although the PS3 will be more powerful in almost every aspect.

If you had the money, which would you go for? Note: Keep in mind that the R520's specs are NOT confirmed yet and will most likely be subject to change.

EDIT>>> The R520's series name will most likely be the X9xx series.

yeah that seems about right from what ive heard, 24 pipelines?? DANG !! thats sick. Also , isnt that chip being put in the Xbox 360? I belive thats the GPU their useing, wasnt sure.

Nvidia will eventually prevail in this because ATI has the tendency of overstating its specifications (leaks aren't very good, alvino). We also know the 7800 GTX is coming out very soon (June 21st I believe)... while the R520 is... coming out when? Months upon months in the future.. and by the time they do get it.. Nvidia will already have designed a new card based on the 7800 GTX that's better... like an 8000 or something like that.

The R520 launch date was delayed, so it's coming out a couple months after the 7800 GTX does.

Nah, the Xbox 360's GPU is based on the R500.

Well I did state that the specs for the R520 AREN'T fully confirmed yet...

Becides, you never know...ATI might really make something that fast. Only time will tell...

Well you said it yourself the R520 may be delayed. And by that time, Nvidia will have something new out... and why is ATI so ignorant of the mid-range users?

Well the delay isn't THAT big of a time frame for nVIDIA to release a new chip (it takes more than a couple of months to design an improved core).

No... they can make improvements on the 7800 GTX...

Well ATI hasn't rejected the mid-range market, they just don't concentrate on it enough. The X700 series is their mid-range card and it is definately due for some improvement.
