Yes, your hard drive will work with your new motherboard. What kind of hard drive is it? It should work regardless unless the technology has drastically changed since the last time I've been on here.

No. Regular Windows XP will work fine with 64-bit hardware. The new Windows XP Professional X64 is a pure 64-bit OS that was written to take advantage of the 64-bit process making it more reliable and better.
If you have Win XP Pro you can go here and trade it in for the new x64 bit version for free. This is what I did to get the cd, it will cost you $12.00 for post and package though.

My Norton AV 2004 Pro would not install so I'm using Avast AV which is 64 bit compatible.

Does the X64 look like the 32-bit Windows XP? Same interface? I probably won't qualify for that because I'm using a copy of Windows XP corporate edition.
I was considering this too. I have the 3500+ as well.
What limitations will I come across using a 64bit version of windows? I have an MSI 6600GT and a Asus SLI Deluxe motherboard and a couple WD HDDs. Will all of these and my games and software work normally on a 64bit system?

Just make sure that you have 64-bit drivers available in case something doesn't work. The OS should have a lot of default drivers to use.
The advantage of 64-bit would double the amount of data a CPU can process per clock. You would note a performance increase because a 64-bit CPU can handle more memory and larger files. Unfortunately, most benefits of a 64-bit CPU will go unnoticed without a 64-bit operating system and 64-bit software and drivers which are able to take advantage of 64-bit processor features. HOwever, for the average home computer user, 32-bits is more than adequate for now.
