Hi,

I'm talking yet again about my old banger PC.

I want to upgrade it, there's life in the old donkey yet.

I want to change the MoBo, it's currently an Intel board with a PIII 600 Mhz and 128Mb RAM, but I want to upgrade for more power.

What Mobo's would you suggest? I'd like to stick with Intel, I've always used them.

I want to get some new RAM to go with it, maybe 256/384Mb, enough to run the Linux desktop environments without the thing slowing to a crawl.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

PIII is probably SD RAM, so you'd be rather limited uf you plan to keep the old RAM. Most boards have DDR today. That RAM might also only be PC100... Power supply is rather small too. You'd be better off just upgrading the whole thing.

Assuming you want to keep th cost down, I'd look for a SocketA board. You could probably find one for rather cheap. They have a rather large upgrade pather too. Some of the newer ones could probably go down to a Duron 600(or however slow they were) on up to the high end Athlon XP and maybe even beyond...weren't some Sempron's Socket A too?
