I have a good AV, but suddenly I am getting spam e-mails entitled, believe it or not;-
***SPAM***

In the header, they also have a short description of the subject matter.
I have tried to get rid of these, but with no success,....any ideas?
Another worrying thing, the ***SPAM*** header is mixed in with other e-mails subject matter, not just from one relative/friend/contacts, but all others, not every one, about 5%
Can't understand why the mix, I'm pretty certain they don't carry infections.

Yes check your computer for any type of spyware that might be creating or pulling the spam to your computer.

I run the latest version of Outlook Express
I have a very good AV, plus Ad Aware 6.

Hey fellow...

Who ever your internet service provider should be contacted and advised some spam is slipping through your current filters. Spammers are some pretty smart albeit sneaky folks. Kinda like security systems you only get to stay ahead of the bad guys one or two steps.

Setishock, thanks for the advice, luckily, Wanadoo are easy to contact, & they reply in 24 hours, here is their response, cut & pasted, is that about what you thought they would say?

Dear Maurice,Thank you for your email.

We are sorry to hear of the problems you have been having with email.

Wanadoo has in place an anti-spam service that identifies and filters
spam email (unsolicited junk emails). When a spam email is sent to you,
it goes through our intelligent anti-spam filters and is then marked as
spam in the subject line.

If you use Outlook Express or another email client to download your
email, all spam emails will be downloaded into your inbox. Because they
are marked as spam, you will be able to identify and delete them easily.
You can also set 'Message Rules' in Outlook Express to delete all mails
beginning with ***SPAM***. If you would prefer not to download spam
emails at all, you can change your settings using Webmail.

Wanadoo Webmail is just another way to view your emails. To access your
mails this way and to reset your anti-spam settings, go to
www.wanadoo.co.uk and enter your Wanadoo email address and password into
the login box.

Once you have logged into Webmail, you can choose to send all spam
emails straight to your Webmail junk mail folder, where they will be
automatically deleted after 7 days. If you choose this setting, spam
will no no longer be downloaded into your Outlook Express inbox.

To change your settings, click on Options in Webmail and select the
Anti-spam link.

In the unlikely event that we accidentally mark a genuine message as
spam, we recommend that you log in to Webmail regularly to check the
contents of your junk mail folder.

Unfortunately, our anti-spam service does not always catch every single
spam message as spammers often find ways around the filters used. We do
offer support and advice for our Members to prevent and report unwanted
email. By personalising your email software you are able to set filters
which will delete any emails you don't want automatically. Our On-Line
Help pages provide full details of how to do this. We also work in
partnership with our mail service providers if you'd like to report
undesired emails to the appropriate authority.

For more advice, please use this link to our On-Line Help pages

http://www.wanadoo.co.uk/help/id/6140.htm

If you have any further queries then please do not hesitate to get in
contact with us again.

Kind Regards

Yep, it does, & as to the service, it is excellent, I'd recommend Wanadoo [previously "Freeserve"] to anyone, at £13.99/month dial-up, & only £15.99/month for broadband, what's your ISP if you don't mind me asking?......&, ur, what's "kewl"???, is it "cool", sorry, I know many present day sayings, even for an old guy, but this one puzzles me!
