most good motherboards come with good quality sound on board. eg mine came with 8 channel - cany really complain. whichever mainboard you buy (around $100 in your estimate) get one with sound, just pick some decent speakers. get a named brand cheap speakers are normally a pretty bad idea

have a look around and you'll find one that does, post it up on here and ask what people think of the bus speeds etc. we'll point ya in right direction :D

You can get an Asus if you wish. Some of us prefer Asus or like me, I prefer MSI:

MSI K8N Neo4-F Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 ATX AMD Motherboard

That's a cheaper board, but I still like it. The onboard audio has 8 channels. You can opt for the Platinum if you wish. Cost more.

For sound card, get this one at a minimum price:

CREATIVE Sound Blaster Audigy2 ZS SB0350 8 (7.1) Channels 24-bit 192KHz PCI Interface Sound Card
