cant burn onto DVD-R discs?

I recently bought a Toshiba Satelite M35X-S163 laptop. It has a DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive but when I try to burn files to a DVD-R disc it doesnt work. The drive wont read the disc it just keeps spinning. I can burn files to CD-RW discs, but if the file is bigger than 700 MB what do I use? Is my drive not able to burn on these type of discs?

nope its not a dvd-ram/dvd-rw is it? by that description its not. its jsut a combo drive that allows you to read dvd's and burn cd's. if you wanna back up files that are too big try compressing them

That is what i thought. So basically this drive is only good for music or anything that can fit onto a 700mb CD-RW disc?

Bigger files such as ISO files need to be done with a DVD-R drive?

chyup. get an external. if on the cd drive it doesntsay "dvd r/rw" then u cant burn dvds. winzip is a good compression program. get that. but otherwise... yeha.
