Partioning a HD

Im a new user and i have a question
1. do u have to create a partion on a HD to use it and why or
can u install any OS without a partion (otherwise if an os did not provide a autopartion could u still install it)
Please be as technical as possible i thnk u have to have a partiotion...

You have to have a Seperate partition if you want to install multiples OS's.

You can't install windows 98 or 98SE on multiple partitions. Software just won't support it.

XP Pro will work on multiple partitions---I think.......

Yeah, it will. To partition nicely, I recommend you format the drive then use the Linux (Mandrake Distro) disk 1 which includes a great partitioning software for FREE.

Technically, you don't have to create a partition on the hard drive to use it, Windows will create the partition for you during the installation process.
