i need 2 x 256mb pc1066 ram for my dell dimension 8250 but i need to know if it only takes non ECC or ECC type if yall kno anything and where to find it cheap say something cause this ram is expensive and hard to find.

well ive found it on ebay and on memory suppliers.com but i noticed that its real hard to find it and why is NON ECC the rule of thumb?

most computers use non ECC, ECC is Error Checking for the RAM and it is used mostly in servers.

ECC can find and correct some memory errors, but it comes with a performance price: it will slow your system by about 2%. Fortunately, memory errors are rare in today's memory chips, so most average users don't have a need for ECC. If you're planning to use your system as a server or other "mission-critical" machine, we recommend ECC like Ownage mentioned. If you're looking for maximum speed, I recommend non-parity.

As for the links to where to get it, here are some I'm throwing in:

Get two of those and they are out of stock (auto-notify).

$209 thanks man ill get at the end of the week cause i got to get my 1st paycheck and sence theyve been holding back itll be about $250 and i have to get a DEBIT card so i can get it off the internet. but i have one last question how do i know if i have ECC or non ECC ram?

NON ECC, UNREGISTERED AS WELL. DDR 3200 is most common. I recommend Crucial Ballistix, OCZ, Geil, Patriot, and Kingston HyperX myself.
