Fragmenting Help

My computer is fragmented beyond belief. I am running XP Pro and when I run the defrag it says that I need to run a defrag right away. I run one and when it is done it says that it can't move some of the files. Is there a better way to defragment the computer? Should I keep running the defrags untill it defrags all of it? I really don't know. All I know is that it is slowing down my computer by a lot.

go there and get winternals defrag manager. it may help, if not then i dont know what to tell ya.

yea reformat is always the way to go

The best way would be to defrag in Safemode, as it'll have less things running and will be able to move stuff more effiecently. Press F8 at boot up to access the menu.

yea virus scans in safe mode also seem to pick up more things than when in normal mode....its quite odd

I think that the virus thing has to do because it's not really doing anything in safe mode. It's more like a sitting duck. Or a fugitive got in the spot light.

dont defrag in safe Mode, it dont get all your system cleaned

Looking at this, there is a way to make it work in safemode. It definetly seems like the better option to me, unless you go on task manager and delete all running processes except for Systray and Explorer, though some other programs running might shut your computer off (i know one does on mine if i close it), Same thing that worm did I had on the PC once...
