slow startup after a reinstall of windows

After having done a repair installation of windows, the loading time before the profiles menu appears is about 30 seconds. Icons on the desktop and other files in folders now take some time to appear. It was all instantanious before the reinstall. I think repairing it again won't change anything.

It's probably just an effect of the repair of windows.

I think you should just reformat then... or press windows button and r together and then type in MSCONFIG, then go to startup and check off the things you don't need.

do you ever defrag your computer? there is a post about it if you search for it!

You would be amazed out how defragmented a drive can be even after a new installation. It is one of the first things I do when re-installing the OS

Windows installation creates a bunch of temp files throughout the install process. Those files are deleted when done but it leaves your hard drive fragmented. You should definitely run disk cleanup and defrag.
