can anyone tell me which to wires you short in the 20 pin conector to boot up the cpu fan?

Um...what? The CPU fan is sort of connected to the motherboard and not much would happen if you have the ATX plug off O.O

Now if you mean the pins on your motherboard for the lights and switches, that all depends on your mobo and we need much more info

if you put a wire from the green to the grey conector on your 20 pin atx connetor your cpu fan will fire up if you have power. only problem is, im not sure whether its the green and grey????
its a way of testing to see if your power switch on the front of you case is not working.

How is this possible? If you are talking about the cord that plugs into your motherboard, then how can the CPU fan get power without the power from the motherboard? You would have to take the plug out of the motherboard to short them, which would mean when you did, it wouldn't do anything to the motherboard because it's not even connected to it!
