PCI Express x16 vs AGP

With that in mind, get the PCI-e. It's dual SLI is sweet. PCI-e is a new technology compared to what AGP use to be and have a lot of potential.

everybody is saying the PCI-E has potential. does that mean that AGP is better than PCI-E right now but won't be in the future?

no that means that, it will beat AGP. its stock settings are usually higher than the AGP models of the cards. It will be better in the future

No, PCI-e is better now.

Here are the specs comparison directly from Nvidia's website:

Geforce 6200 AGP

Geforce 6200 PCI-E

Geforce 6600GT side-by-side PCI-E and AGP respective comparison:

Geforce 6800: well, this is just an awesome card

No real specs for the 6800 there but I'm sure it will smoke the AGP competition. This is just the beginning and will keep getting better.

PCI-E has more room for growth. Because the fact that current video cards rarely saturate the AGP8X BUS, there is no noticeable difference between the two at this time.

wait till more games will need more data. Once that happens, you will be able to see the full potential of PCI-E.

I have an SLI mobo (PCIe) but only have one card there now. If i ever decide to upgrade i can just buy the same card and i'll get almost double the performance. An SLI mobo isnt much more than a regular mobo, so i think its worth it, especially if your like me who doesnt wanna get rid of his old card when u decide to upgrade. ;)

AGP are going to own soon, After a little research on how SLI technology works i found out that 1 of the Graphics card works as the 'master' and works at 16X and the 2nd Graphics card acts as a 'slave' and works in 8X mode. Thats why you will see one running at 8X.

At the current time, there is no difference between PCI-E and AGP8x Graphics cards but in the future PCI-E cards will be far superior to AGP8x... the slot itself, PCI-E Is much better...

BTW, as far as current SLI technology goes, I think both cards share the load @ 8x8, future technology will be 16x16. On low resolutions you will not notice that large of a difference using SLI, however, on high resolutions the difference is HUGE.

Right now the mobo that i have runs 1 card at 16x and 2 cards at 8x each, they split the 16x. But mine was one of the first out on the market. I belive that MSI has made a mobo that supports 2 cards at 16x each. Cant rememebr the naem though, supposed to be one of the best mobo's out there right now.
