-- All prices Canadian --

I recently bought an X800 Pro for $350 from my teacher (he has connections). So naturally I need a new computer. I need advice on parts. I know what I want, I just need to know what companies to get it from.

However I made this list up from www.canadacomputers.com who seem to sell parts cheap and are close to where I live. I need advice because I don't know if what I am getting is good or if I can get better prices or hardware. I already have a cd/dvd drive from my old comp + monitor etc.

Asus A8V-E Deluxe Socket 939 VIA K8T890 $165
AMD Athlon 64 4000+ 2.4GHz w/1MB L2 Cache Socket 939 $669
Thermaltake Soprano VB1000BWS Mid-Tower (Black) $119
OCZ (OCZ45012U) ModStream 450 Watt Power Supply $99
OCZ PC-3200 DDR400 Premier Series 1GB (2x512MB) $163
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 SATA/150 160GB 7200RPM 8MB Buffer $116

Total $1,331
Tax 199.65
Total $1,531

Any input is appreciated.

Yeah that shit is friggin ownage man. But I'd go with a different mobo. Maybe the MSI Neo4 Platinum or something.

If your not planning on overclocking the RAM isn't needed. Find the cheapest 1GB (2 x 512MB) of RAM you can and buy that. You might wanna check out the Seagate Barracuda 200GB 7200rpm 8MB cache SATA hard drive, which is around £80, and very good value. Not sure how much that is in Canadian dollars though.

BTW, is the graphics card AGP or PCI-E?

Good ol' Canadacomputers. Canadacomputers is to us Canadians like Newegg is like to you Americans.

wait wheres your case? or is the old case an ATX case? also why are you in need of a 4000+? do you do graphic design or something...i'd get eh amd 3000+ and oc it

Nice setup...the 4000+ is actually pretty good. It has about the same performance (if not less) as the FX-55. Although I think the FX-55 can OC higher because it's multipliers are unlocked and all the Athlon 64's are locked.

nope the 4000+ is 2.4ghz while the FX-55 is 2.6ghz but u were close alvino, i wouldnt spend the $600.00 on the 4000+ though when he could get the 3000+ and have it up to 2.6ghz in no time

I'm new to AMD so I know nothing about them. I don't know how to overclock either (all I know is change some BIOS settings). And my x800 is PCI-express. For the RAM: the cheapest stuff I can find is no name for $55 each. There's Crosair value series for $70 and OCZ value for $69.

So for my processor, getting the 4000 really isn't worth it?
Here are the prices from the site:

3000+ $186
3200+ $240
3500+ $335
3800+ $469
4000+ $669

Again I'm not familiar with AMD like i am with p4s.

Thanks for the replies.

-Oh, and I'm trying to build a gaming machine while not going to a high high price. You know, all settings on full, AAx8 or whatever.
