i have a bunch of old ram chips and i was wondering is there anyway to tell if they are DDR or SDR? there is no brand name or info on them.

Don't even...

Don't even think for a millisecond of plugging those old cards. If any are the wrong type or is BAD, you can get some unwanted results.
When I have ram cards with no info on them I go google-ing. Get the name and numbers off the chips and run them.

Well some old ram sticks don't have any stickers on them, and is just a stick, so in that case, you have to check by how rap_by said to.

I quick way to classifiy them is to count the pins!
There is a definite physical difference from a DDR and a SDRAM. DDR has 184 pins and SDRAM 168 Pins: DDR2 has 240 pins. There were the older type RAM which were 30 and 72 pins.
As to find out there frequency (PC2100>PC3200) etc., you'd have to test them on a motherboard to find out.
