enough future proofing?

They arent obsolete, people just use higher pseed to OC. If you are going to OC, id buildit yourself IMHO.

Well PC3200 are 184 pins, DDR2 240 pins. If you buy a mobo with only 184 pins slots forget DDR2 which have 240 pins!

I'm not sure about AMD processors but Intel has motherboards which takes DDR2 RAM. And it is not for a server!

ASUS has plenty of other motherboards which supports DDR2 for their Intel based products but none yet for their AMD!

I know but higher ddr will outpreform ddr2

And Gen, i believe samsung did the ddr2....i dont think talk of dd3 has begun.

thanks for continued advice people. unlike most of you, i'm never going to do things like overclock, however i am going to be doing quite a lot of photo / video editing, hence needing to upgrade as my current 'old faithful' ain't exactly quick when in psp, adobe ps etc.

how soon are we likely to see ddr2 memory in mainstream, mass produced pcs? if it ain't within the next few months i'm probably as well going for one with standard ddr, no? or will the performance gains if i have 1gb of ddr2 instead of ddr be so good that i should hang off?
