Exactly, comparing the x800 series to the 6800 series makes sense, but not to the 6600 series. And besides, a lot of this discussion is childish. I mean, for a lot of the comparisons, the difference is really just a few FPS.
The 6600 GT is truly a work of art in the mainstream market....... Especially that they introduced the card in AGP format and its only 3.5% slower than its PCI- E big bro. However AGP doesnt have SLI. But Nvidia has taken over the mainstream market for the casual and somewat hardcore gamer.
Evidently, ATI is not doing enough to target the mainstream market. Furthermore, PCI-E has close to 0% difference in performance with AGP 8X. Nvidia has a stranglehold over the market when it comes to hardcore gamer. No hardcore gamer needs an ATI X800... that's why ATI is going to remain a niche card developer.. nothing more.
