Hi all, first of all, please don't start flaming me (yet)

I don't know anything about programming yet, except for html,
but after watching Chobits, I'm really interested if such a thing
as Persocons could be really programmed, even if it's just a program
that would act a bit like it, on a pc, or even a pda.

Say I would want to do this, alone, would it be possible?
Which programming language would be best?
And best of all, what would be the best place to start learning it?

So, I ask you, people that watched Chobits, give me your knowledge!

(And again, please don't flame me for asking such a novice question.)

Thanks in advance,
Peter Snepvangers.

Yes, you could build a companion system or application.
I can't remeber the nae of the engine, or the person who invented it, or inded the award on offer for when someone suceeds, but there is actually an award for creating a program that can talk over an instant messenger as if it were human. the prize is given based on whether it can actually fool humans...
there are many (poor) implementations of this as IRC bots, mostly as automated chatroom police...

Many computer games are adaptive, the AI of enemies in games is getting better, no longer do they have to follow set paths, and you can't hide in just one lpace to sniper out the entire level, the game, will become wise to your tactics...

as far as the best language goes...
personally I think C or C++
anything else would be just too slow to be realistic.

Yeah, I agree. For learning C or C++, get a book and a compiler that is compatible with the code in the book. That's how I'm learning it.

And doing that alone sounds like a challenge, think you're up to it?

Thanks for the replies, and yes, I'm up to it....
I just have to do this, going to focus myself 100% on it.

Good Luck. Check out my topic on learning C++ then if you need to know where to get started (sticky in this forum).
