Noob Building a computer needs help

well i dont watch dvd's on my computer now its to old and crappy (p2 400mhz 256mb ram). but the movies i deal with are for www.3si.org and www.supraforums.com i do all the ftp stuff and edit movies and making them constantly. but i only picked a gig of ram i dont think 2 would be needed. but im not looking to keep this computer for only a year im looking for atleast 5yrs+ ive had this one im on now since 98 and works good but just running hard for what i do. my friend says with a 6600 i should have more then enough for a video card. so thats wat i was looking at to get.also ive looked at dell for them to build a PC for me and it came out over 5k and i have less then what i have listed. also this really doesnt have to be a 4k PC cuz i have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers, webcam, mic but they are also dated and getting iffy on working. so that knocks the price down almost 1100 bucks so its more like 2900. then if i wanted less i could lose 1 raptor and 1 300gig so thats 2600 then. but since u all suggest a different CPU wat do u think i should get? also for "SLI" mobo can u put only 1 vid card or 2 crapper ones in there and it be ok? or does it need some special cards. srry for the long post but its ?'s i have

You don't need sli so don't worry about it, it is only for gamers. Yea a 6600 would be fine but since you have the money just get a leadtech 6800GT. It will last you awhile and cools very well. I don't want to stop you from getting what you want. A good cpu would be the Athlon 64 3500+ Winchester core. Deicide if you are going pci express or agp. Just get what you want but just make sure it just isnt overkill.

HE HE HE! This system is a bit too much, I just did this based on the budget you gave! It was fun seeing the power of the system I once had.... Too bad it never worked properly.... :( OH WELL!

no offence but the computer u showed me is more towards gaming and im not into that i need tons of storage thats y i picked the 300gigs and stuff.

but jack22 the reason i picked the sli is because i will only run one vid card now, as it gets older and programs or sites need a bigger vid card to run them i will then buy a 2nd card and install it.but i for sure will add the 6600 to my list. but i think i will do a little overkill so it lasts a long time and i dont need to update things once a year.

also can u guys suggest some good ram? i dont know if mine is good i just randomly picked one. keep in mind no OC'd products

well the hard drives im all ready 100% sure im getting is the ones ive listed. but the ram u selected y must i get 2 gigs? does it run really shitty with only one gig? for 6XX dollars for that cpu i might as well get one from zipzoomfly (fx55) for 880. but thanks is there any other places with good rep that sells products? cuz after just looking at zzf i dont think newegg will get my 1k for a cpu :) o yea that vid card is way to much and way over killing for wat i need. im looking for cheap ones that will work for a sli mobo. but i dont know if that mobo will take any mobos. will it? im tring to keep the vid card price down all i know i want it 256mb the rest of the stuff i have no idea wtf that means. thanks guys srry if im pissing ppl off or annoying but my comps dieing i need a new one badly.

You just do't need an FX-55. Go look at benches. You really don't need it for wht you are doing.

Ok benches are at tomshardware.com but if you are saying your a nood, imho, i don't think you deserve the 1000 cpu nor do you need it, just my opinion. Like if you were gaming then you might need it but not for what your doing.

ok after looking at benchmarks i think im going with the 4000+/fx-53. ok new issue at hand cooling how should i go about this? i hear water then heatsink style which should be used for that cpu?
