So I hoook two computers to one switch...

And then what happens? Can I access one computer from the other? Can I send files across? Is this a good way to make a direct connection between computers? I only have access to one ethernet jack in my dorm room, so hooking both directly to the network isn't an option. Does this sound like a good solution?

the simpelst thing... crossover cable!!! and windows xp easy and fresh-n-good networkin!

or if you want a more elaborate dish....
use a router or a switch.....

Once I connect the crossover cable what do I have to do software wise?

use teh XP networking software and set up yout IPs right.

go to network connections and right click on your connection, go to properties, and enable DHCP.
